Privacy Policy
Balpum is an app where walking earns screen time. Every step adds minutes to your balance, and when the balance runs out, a lock screen covers the apps you chose yourself.
Balpum has no server and no feature that sends or receives anything over the internet. Your step, health, and screen-time records live only on your device. There is no account and no sign-in, and the developer cannot see your data.
1. Information stored only on your device
The information below never leaves your device. Deleting the app deletes it too.
| Type | What it contains | Where it lives |
|---|---|---|
| Daily records | Date, step count, minutes earned, Watch session bonus, number of times the lock was bypassed | On-device database |
| Lock settings | Whether the lock is on, the set of apps you picked (opaque tokens), automatic deduction totals | App group storage |
| Rate settings | Price of one minute, daily free minutes, carryover cap, Zone 2 heart rate threshold | On-device settings |
| Weekly Nag | The single most recent generated sentence | On-device settings |
2. Health data
Balpum reads data from the Apple Health app to convert your steps into screen time. The iPhone app and the Apple Watch app ask for different permissions.
| App | Reads | Writes | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone | Step count, heart rate | None | Turning steps into screen-time balance |
| Apple Watch | Heart rate, step count, active energy | Workouts (indoor walking) | Zone 2 bonus during a session, filling your Activity rings |
Health data never leaves your device. Balpum does not use health data for advertising or marketing, and never sells or shares it with anyone.
You can withdraw access at any time in iOS Settings › Privacy & Security › Health. Withdrawing stops step earning, but existing records remain.
3. Screen Time data
When you turn on the lock, Balpum uses Apple's Family Controls and Device Activity frameworks. This access is used only so you can manage your own device; it is never used to supervise a family member's or anyone else's device.
What is recorded
- Time spent in the apps you picked — a total in minutes
- How many times you bypassed the lock screen — the action shown as “Open anyway” in the app
What cannot be recorded
Balpum cannot know which apps you picked. iOS hands the selection to the app only as opaque tokens that cannot be interpreted; the app cannot read an app's name or identifier from them, and cannot send them off the device. This is not a policy Balpum chose — it is a constraint iOS enforces structurally.
4. Weekly Nag and on-device AI
Weekly Nag summarizes your last seven days. It is computed from values already on your device — steps, minutes earned and spent, how many times the lock was bypassed — and turned into sentences. No outside service is involved.
On devices that support Apple Intelligence, a one-sentence comment is added on top. That sentence is produced by the on-device language model Apple ships as part of the operating system, and the entire process finishes on your device. On devices without support, only the summary is shown, without the comment.
5. Permissions
| Permission | Requested by | If you decline |
|---|---|---|
| Health | iPhone, Apple Watch | Step earning and the Zone 2 bonus will not work |
| Screen Time | iPhone | Only the lock will not work; earning continues as usual |
| Motion & Fitness | Apple Watch | Live step haptics during a session will not work |
Balpum does not request notification, location, contacts, camera, photo, or microphone access.
6. Sharing with third parties and international transfers
None. Balpum does not provide any information to third parties and does not transfer it across borders. The app contains no feature that communicates with the outside world.
7. Analytics and advertising
Balpum includes no usage analytics tool, no crash-reporting tool, and no advertising SDK. It does not read the advertising identifier.
8. Retention and deletion
- On-device information — kept until you delete it. Deleting the app deletes it too.
- Workouts saved to the Health app — remain in the Health app. They are not removed when you delete Balpum; you can delete them directly in the Health app.
- Server storage — there is no server, so nothing is stored.
9. Your rights
Information on your device disappears when you remove the app. You can withdraw Health and Screen Time access at any time in iOS Settings.
10. Children's privacy
Balpum is intended for users aged 13 and over.
Under the Personal Information Protection Act of the Republic of Korea, processing personal information of a child under 14 requires consent from a legal guardian. Users under 14 should use the app only with a guardian's consent.
